Its a funny thing neh? Hitler is famous for one of the greatest slaughters in human history and yet is also responsible for much of the re-industrialisation of Germany.
The problem stems from the fact that as a society we seem to like our stories neatly packaged into binary packages where we are shown the good guy/bad guy relationship. in this case Gaddafi is shown as a bad guy because the American/UK press has always had a bone to pick with him for everything from his support of Palestine, to his supposed shelter of the Lockerbie bombers and who can forget providing the Soviets with a launch pad for operation in the Western Hemisphere.
I am not saying that he didnt do or have done some terrible things. Nor am I saying that the things listed in this e-mail exonerate him. What it does do is challenge us the audience to this story in how we accept a point of view as the sole truth when in reality the truth is such a convoluted mess that when we really examine who did what, they why and what the desired and achieved outcomes were we are often left only with a strong sense of disillusionment because the strong pillars that we thought the world is based on were in fact merely poles that we each hold up hoping that it will stop the sky from falling on our heads.
but thats the thing isnt it. reality seems to continue and to to exist independant of whether or not you or I or anyone else believes it or cares about it. The same can be said about the apartheid government, there was a lot of free (or to the benefit) for whites (long list as well) but does not mean the regime or its leaders was good.
